Professor Iain DonnisonThe research of Professor Iain Donnison aims to understand how plants function and how this information can be used to improve plant performance and utilization in the agricultural and built environments, both now and into the future. He works on temperate and tropical grasses, both in semi-natural and in farmed systems, to deliver sustainable, low-carbon solutions. Current research includes the defining of 'energy grass' ideotypes, grass breeding, the matching of crop and conservation issues to different end uses, green infrastructure and urban agriculture.
Professor Donnison succeeded Professor Roderick Hunt as Company Secretary and Treasurer of the Annals of Botany Company in 2025. The Secretary and Treasurer is the Company's de facto CEO, responsible for the Company's Registered Office, including archiving, financial policy, payments policy, risk register, audit, banking, security, payments, receipts, VAT, meetings, paid and honorary staffing, statutory compliances. As a member of the Company's Executive, the Secretary/Treasurer is a Director of the Company and a Charitable Trustee. Like all Company Members, the Secretary/Treasurer oversees all aspects of the ownership, support and operation of the Company itself and of its five published titles Annals of Botany, AoB PLANTS, in silico Plants, BotanyOne, and The Week in Botany. The Company Secretary and Treasurer deputizes for the Chair when both the latter and the Vice-Chair are unavailable. Professor Donnison has additional responsibilities towards AoB PLANTS.
