Grants and donations

The Annals of Botany Company has traditionally awarded grants and donations in support of individual activities within botanical science. However, the Company’s view has increasingly become that its support for freely-distributed products such as BotanyOne and The Week in Botany offers greater and more general benefit to plant science than does the awarding of single grants. These two free titles together consumed £48k of expenditure in 2019. Although applications for an Annals of Botany Company Grant are still welcomed, in the present financial climate, and in the light of the policy stated above, funding is generally hard to secure.

Any applications should be concise and include a sentence or two in response to the following six questions. The third question is decisive, as funding is largely restricted to events which, at least in part, are likely to promote the journals themselves. At the conclusion of any project which receives our funding, an article for BotanyOne is also expected.

  1. Who are you and what are your contact details?
  2. For what activity or event is the funding required?
  3. Why should it be the Company that supports your application?
  4. How much is being requested, and where and how will the funding be spent?
  5. By what method, and when, are you requesting funding to be supplied?
  6. What evidence of legitimate expenditure will you ultimately be able to provide?

Send the completed application by post to the Company’s Registered Office at  1 Emperor Way, Exeter Business Park, Exeter EX1 3QS, UK or by e-mail to the Company Secretary and Treasurer.
